Winter Wonderland: Celebrations and Traditions Around the World
Enjoy a season of holiday fun during Fernbank’s annual Winter Wonderland: Celebrations & Traditions Around the World. This holiday-inspired exhibit features two floors of decorated trees and other displays that recognize various celebrations, events and cultural traditions from around the world, including:
- Muslim and Christian ornaments, representing holiday traditions and artistic traditions (Alif)
- Menorahs designed and created by art students (Weber School)
- Colorful, carved wooden retablos, featuring Nativity scenes (Peru)
- Butterfly and “Year of the Ox” ornaments (Taiwan)
Outdoors, Winter Wonderland experiences add to the holiday feel and fun. Themed giant snow globes up to 7 feet tall have been specially crafted to display several classic winter scenes, including ice skating, a gingerbread house and more. These larger-than-life snow globes provide the perfect opportunity to fill camera rolls and social media pages with unique seasonal photos.
Along with the snow globes, a sock skating rink is among the holiday activities during Winter Wonderland. Guests can enjoy the sensation of "skating across the ice" without having to slip into a pair of traditional skates by relying on their socks to slide across a smooth "icy" surface.
