Treasures from the Frederic Remington Art Museum & Beyond
Starting September 9, Booth Western Art Museum is hosting an exhibition of original works by Frederic Remington – considered the greatest Western artist ever. Treasures from the Frederic Remington Art Museum & Beyond is the largest Remington exhibition ever in the Southeast and spotlights how Frederic Remington, more than any other artist, became the country’s leading interpreter of the American West.
While Remington may be better known today for his bronze sculptures of cowboys and American Indians on horseback, he was also an important painter, illustrator and writer. In fact, during his lifetime, he was better known for his paintings than his bronzes. His work, especially his illustrations published in magazines such as Harper’s Weekly, Century, Collier’s, Boys’ Life, and Cosmopolitan, are largely responsible for popular culture impressions and imagery of the Old West for Americans even today.
