The DeKalb Symphony Orchestra held its third Young Artists Concerto Competition and selected four winners from among the many gifted high school student applicants. Along with receiving cash awards, the winners of the competition will perform first movements from concertos with the DSO on March 26, 2019. First place winner Lexine Feng, from Peachtree Corners, will perform Dvorak: Cello Concerto (I); second place winner Alice Zhang, from Suwanee, will perform Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1 (I); and tied for third place are Madeline Chen from Sandy Springs, performing Ravel: Introduction & Allegro and Ashley Yoon, from Charleston, South Carolina, performing Saint-Saëns: Violin Concerto No. 3 (I).
The DSO is delighted to be able to showcase some of Atlanta’s finest young musical talents to the community. “The level of music-making of these gifted young musicians is truly remarkable. Each student is being given the opportunity to perform their piece with orchestra instead of just piano accompaniment.” explains Fyodor Cherniavsky, DSO conductor. He added, “It will be a real treat to see and hear how they rise to the occasion at the concert.”
