The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus 40th Anniversary Holiday Concert
After a year of digital programming, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is thrilled to be returning to the beautiful Cathedral of St. Philip for an unforgettable musical event.
The AGMC’s 40th Anniversary Holiday Concert will be held on Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. and on Dec. 4 at 1 and 6 p.m. at the cathedral, 2744 Peachtree Rd N.W., Atlanta, GA 30305. General admission tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door, with a special discount of $35 for seniors, students, members of the military, and veterans. To purchase tickets, visit www.voicesofnote.org or call 404-320-1030.
So that the chorus and its patrons can share in the joy of the season in person, the AGMC is keeping safety in mind and will require patrons to wear masks, and to also show either proof of full vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test in order to attend.
Donald Milton III, Artistic Director of the AGMC, said, “This concert is so full of joy. We have chosen our favorite songs from the last forty years to celebrate our ability to gather again. Our audiences are a huge part of the AGMC family, and we’ve been feeling their absence during this year of digital concerts. We feel so grateful to be able to bring you a blend of holiday favorites, along with exciting new pieces commissioned specifically for this event. From Franz Biebl’s stunning “Ave Maria” to a new hilarious satirical “Holiday Lament”, you can expect the fabulous energy and amazing musicality the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is known for.”
This holiday concert marks the start of the AGMC’s ruby anniversary: 40 years of music, activism, and community. They will be clinking their ruby slippers and walking the yellow brick road to Oz all season long in an effort to raise $40,000 and reach 40,000 followers on social media.
Founded in 1981, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is one of the world’s longest-running queer choruses, and is part of Voices of Note, Inc., a not-for-profit organization governing the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus and the Atlanta Women’s Chorus. Voices of Note is a catalyst for social change, inspiring creative opportunities to share different perspectives within our community. Both the AGMC and the AWC are members of GALA, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses.
