Presented by SCADFILM, SCAD's signature AnimationFest returns September 23-25 with special screenings, panels with titans of animation, insightful presentations, and a few surprises along the way. The festival will feature three days of virtual sessions with unparalleled global access to the creative minds behind animation, visual effects, motion media design, and gaming content across all genres and platforms.
A highlight of SCAD AnimationFest will be the premiere of standout collaborative 3D student film, Hex Limit, from SCAD Animation Studios, the only student-run animation studio at an elite university and a student showcase of the film, The Ocean Duck, available on-demand throughout the festival.
AnimationFest will feature screenings of Do, Re & Mi from Amazon, Netflix’s We the People; and panels with creators, showrunners and industry executives from Nickelodeon, Marvel's M.O.D.O.K, Star Trek: Prodigy from Paramount +, Pixar, and panels spotlighting Georgia's booming animation industry with insights from SCAD alumni and ASIFA South. The AnimationFest 2021 Award of Excellence will be presented to Oscar-winning director, story artist and animator Everett Downing, Jr., recognizing his transformational achievements in animation throughout his storied career.
The curated programming for the festival represents the expertise and excellence of the university’s top ranked degree programs from the Schools of Digital Media and Entertainment Arts. Animation has exploded in popularity in recent years and has become one of the largest of SCAD’s preeminent degree programs. SCAD’s animation program is regarded globally as a best-in-class program for preparation of a growing field that encompasses film, television, interactive media and video games.
