Sanders Family Christmas
Theatre-goers will travel back to an earlier time and place this fall when Tucker's Main Street Theatre presents "Sanders Family Christmas," a comedy with music, on the weekends of Nov. 30 - Dec. 2 and Dec. 7-9 at the Tucker Recreation Center.
The play takes place on Christmas Eve 1941 at the rural Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, N.C., 18 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Sanders Family Singers, a traveling bluegrass gospel group, leads the audience "congregation" in a funny and heartwarming farewell to one of their own: Dennis Sanders, who is about to enter military service as a U.S. Marine.
"Sanders Family Christmas" features 25 bluegrass renditions of traditional hymns and holiday songs interspersed with humorous "witnessing" by family members.
"Sanders Family Christmas" is a sequel to the popular "Smoke on the Mountain," which was staged by Main Street Theatre this past May to sold-out audiences. Both plays were written by Connie Ray and conceived by Alan Bailey.
