FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REMOVAL OF THE WORD “PLANTATION” FROM RIVER EDGE PLANTATION IN FAYETTEVILLE, GA. PROTEST held on July 12, 2020 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Fayetteville, GA. Rivers Edge Plantation 300 Northbridge Rd. On July 12, 2020 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm a Protest event will take place. WE ARE DEMANDING THE WORD “PLANTATION” BE REMOVED FROM THE NAME OF OUR SUB-DIVISION and all documents pertaining to the name of our community. Plantations, which were commercial estates in the southern states, typically used African slave labor. The people in slavery were either Africans who had been kidnapped from their homes and brought over to the Americas by ships or people who were descended from first- generation Africans.
The homeowners demand that we want the word “Plantation” removed from the name of our sub-division. We do not want to continue being reminded of the atrocities committed to Africans on plantations in the south every time we drive in and out of our community. This word is a relic of the Dark history in our country’s history.
We are proud of our community, but privately many of us cringe at the memory of the horrors that took place on Plantations
