FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Inge's “PICNIC” Revival at Merely Players Presents
Doraville, September 11, 2019
The languid familiarity of neighbors on the front porch in a mid-century, mid-western
town begins to dissipate with the arrival of a young braggart with a degrading history in William Inge’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, “PICNIC.” The production is Merely Players Presents’ first full-length theatrical presentation in their new environs at the Atlanta Cuban Club JITP (Just Inside the Perimeter).
At first blush, one might assume a play that peers into the otherwise unremarkable lives of girls and woman of generations past might be an exercise in nostalgia. But under the baton of director Joan Alvey-McElroy every drop of sentimentality is wrung from the cast as Inge’s characters broaden and deepen.
Featuring original music by playwright and musician Nick Boretz, who to this day cherishes the encouragement given long ago to an aspiring writer by Mr. Inge on the campus of UCLA, the casts includes:
Brock Kercher as Alan
Cameron Smith as Bomber
Gabrielle Stephenson as Madge
Garrett McPherson as Hal
Julia Kneeland as Helen
Kate Leanne Jacoby as Irma
Kristen Krehbiel as Millie
Mary Clair Clooster as Flo (9/13/ - 9/22)
Debbie McLaughlin as Flo (9/27 – 9/29)
Matthew Easter as Howard
Paige Breese as Christine
Sara Humphrey as Rosemary
“PICNIC” runs September 13 through September 29, 2009
Friday and Saturday 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m.
