The Marietta Cobb Museum of Art is excited to present The Perpetual Stranger, a joint exhibition of two Atlanta artists, Tori Tinsley and Ally White. Tori Tinsley’s painting career developed as a way to cope with and make sense of the helplessness she felt when her mother was diagnosed with a degenerative brain disease. A new mother herself, becoming a different type of caregiver nuanced the context of her abstracted interpretations of love. Ally White presents a distinct style of portraiture that lingers on her subjects’ solitude, contemplation, and otherness. White’s dreamlike pieces of art are intuitive, enhanced interpretations of innocuous moments. Both Tinsley and White embrace in their practices an unabashed and expressive use of color, gesture, and texture while meditating on feelings of awkwardness, isolation, and unease, but also courage, love, and hope.
