MetroMontage XIX features works of fine art by contemporary artists that showcasethe diversity and skill within our nation’s culture. MCMA invites you toexplore and embrace the breadth of work currently being created by artistsacross the United States. This year, 72 works of art were chosen out of morethan 500 submissions to represent a body of work that is a cohesive andencompassing celebration of creative expression.
Meg Aubrey presents aselection of oil paintings that are primarily from her new Game series, which dissectsthemes such as loneliness, secrecy, and artificiality through her manicured yetunnerving suburban scenes. Alea Hurst’s oil paintings and serigraphs explorethe wearing of masks and hiding of one’s face, but spin the concept around byusing such outward presentation to reveal deeper truths about her subjects andsociety overall. Presented together, the two artists convey complementary butseparate perspectives in artistic approaches to identity politics, presentationversus reality, and the consequences of exposing hidden truths.
