Dr. Mario Chandler, Professor of Spanish at OU, has interests in Medieval and Golden-age Spanish literature with particular emphasis on trans-Atlantic approaches. He has researched the literature, film, and cultures related to Afro-Hispanic and Afro-Latino populations, including Spanish-speaking communities in Africa. In 2016 his text Gazing the Black Star: An African American Contemplates Ghana was published by Hetura Books. Dr. Chandler earned his bachelor’s degree at Iowa State University and his M.A. and Ph.D. at The University of Georgia.
