GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Jazz Master and Kennedy Center Living Jazz Legend, Ahmad Jamal, plays Atlanta for the Jazz 91.9 WCLK 45th Anniversary Fall Benefit Concert on Thursday, December 12, 8:00 p.m. at the Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech. The WCLK Benefit Concert is a hallmark of the Jazz 91.9 WCLK 45th Anniversary Celebration. During the show, Jazz 91.9 WCLK will pay tribute to Jamal as a 2019 recipient of the Jazz 91.9 WCLK Jazz Legacy Award.
Ahmad Jamal’s career spans seven decades covering eras of The Art Form, Big Band, the Parker/Gillespie Era, to the Electronic Age. Jamal is one of the most sampled composers and recording artists in the world. Jamal is a true scientist of sound: his use of space and dynamics, along with his tight, intricate arrangements, were a big influence on generations of pianists. A phenomenal pianist, Jamal will explore the full breadth of his remarkable offerings, which was cemented with the classic 1958 album, At the Pershing: But Not for Me, featuring his definitive recording of “Poinciana.”
