The plight of formerly incarcerated individuals facing barriers to employment and community reintegration has been a cornerstone of IMAN’s work since its inception. Green ReEntry provides transitional housing, life skills education, and sustainable construction training for returning citizens and high risk youth in Atlanta and Chicago.
IMAN Atlanta Green ReEntry Graduation
Over the last six months, IMAN Atlanta's Green ReEntry cohort has been working hard to transform their lives and their community! They began their journey in January, building bonds with one another during an overnight "Readiness Retreat". Later that month, the brothers engaged local legislators around criminal justice reform during two critical advocacy efforts. These trips to the Capitol sparked significant shifts in how they perceived themselves and their role in the community as directly affected advocates for needed reform in Georgia.
Since then, these 15 extraordinary men have helped lead an interfaith community workshop focused on building a sustainable herb garden; created the "1link1chain" music video; completed entrepreneur training to start their own LLCs; obtained green construction certifications; applied their knowledge in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry to renovate IMAN Atlanta's new 10-unit affordable housing project; and participated in IMAN Atlanta's first-ever Career Expo with six construction companies.
