Hillside International Truth Center, Inc. actually began in the heart of the Rev. Dr. Barbara Lewis King at the age of thirteen. In September of 1971, at the age of 41, Dr. Barbara’s childhood dream became a reality in Atlanta, Georgia, when 12 people gathered in her living room. Hillside was founded as an international New Thought inclusive and healing ministry of the whole person – spirit, mind, and body.
From the beginning, Dr. Barbara always closed service with members joining hands and forming a “Circle of Love”. Each time the circle grew in size, Dr. Barbara thanked God for the growth. After a few years, she and her members purchased a church building. As the congregation grew, a Wednesday evening service was added, along with classes in meditation, prosperity, and bible study.
In 1977 The Barbara King School of Ministry was founded. Further growth necessitated the opening of a metaphysical bookstore and a dial-a-prayer ministry. Shortly, thereafter, a choir was organized and special interest groups were developed. Also, the television ministry, A New Thought, A New Life with Dr. Barbara, was taking the Jesus Christ principles to a wider range of people.
Thirty years ago, after seven years of trials, setbacks, and disappointments, Dr. Barbara’s childhood vision of a sanctuary-in-the-round that seats over 1,000 was completed. This symbol of the “Circle of Love” is now a reality. The Hillside ministry has grown from 12 people to several thousand members and supporters around the world, with more than 25 local ministry auxiliaries and international outreach ministries in Soweto Township and Johannesburg, South Africa; support for the Sisters of the Boa Morte in Bahia, Brazil; villages in Ghana, West Africa, and more.
Dr. Barbara served as Hillside’s Founder Minister/World Spiritual Leader until 2019 at which time she appointed Bishop Dr. Jack L. Bomar as her successor. On October 11, 2020, Dr. Barbara made her transition at the age of 90. Bishop Bomar continues as the Pastor/ Spiritual Leader and Executive Bishop. Under his leadership, the Hillside network has expanded to include ministries in Hawaii, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee; Toronto, Canada; St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; and Australia. Local outreach is expanding and new partnerships are being developed. Hillside continues its mission of “healing hearts and transforming lives”.
