gallery43 is pleased to present its first exhibition of 2018, “RESOLUTE.” Featuring the works of artist Erika Guillory Page, the month-long solo art exhibit will feature more than 35 original works and will be on view from January 27 through February 25, 2018. An opening reception will be held from 5-9 pm, Saturday, January 27. The exhibit closes on Sunday, February 25 with an interactive painting experience led by Page, followed by a closing reception. Each event is free and open to the public.
Erika Guillory Page is known for her intricate, layered works on a variety of substrates, including her signature large scale oil paintings on wood panel. For over 15 years, she has brought vibrant and emotional narratives to life through her art. A Louisiana native, Page shares her passion as shaped by her own experiences. From her childhood as a warden’s daughter to her early career in nursing, life has gifted her with collections of stories that unfold in her paintings. Working with the ill and suffering has profoundly influenced her work. “Storytelling is the very soul of my work,” Page remarks. “My desire as a painter is to share each story and make each mark with integrity. My work is full of grit and grace, and my hope is that the viewer connects with the messages embedded within each piece.”
Included in the exhibit is the artist’s trademarked Word Weaving® series. These intimate oil crayon drawings emerged from what Page characterizes as a frenzy of journaling. In these complex, layered works on paper, every stroke in the work is a written expression of overlapping text from poems, letters, song lyrics, and original writings.
“We are extremely pleased to present Erika’s work for our gallery’s first solo exhibit,” says gallery43 partner Bonnie Buckner Reavis. “We strongly feel her body of work – and the stories that inspire it – reflects what we wish to offer our collectors. Our goal as a gallery is to connect artists and art lovers. The pieces curated for this exhibit showcase a depth that forges a connection with the artist while leaving room for each person to discover their own message within. With Erika’s work the more you look, the more you see.”
