About Elachee’s First Wednesday Home School Program Series: Elachee is pleased to offer a four-session program series for students in Kindergarten through 6th Grade (ages 5 to 12 who will be grouped by age).
February 5, 2020 Program: Astronomy
Students will enjoy astronomical adventures in the STARLAB Planetarium, search for sunspots and solar flares through Solar Telescopes and tour Elachee’s Live Animal Exhibit to discuss how the length of day affects animal behavior.
March 4, 2020 Program: Rocks and Minerals
Students will explore the physiographic regions of Georgia to see how geology has a great effect on the plants and animals found in each. They will then conduct a test to compare common rocks found in Georgia, pan for minerals and hike ‘back in time’ along the trails in Chicopee Woods.
April 1, 2020 Program: Animal and Plant Adaptations
No foolin'! Students will ‘meet’ a variety of Georgia animals and learn of amazing ways these creatures survive in their habitats. Bringing those concepts to life through a visit to Elachee’s Live Animal Exhibit and a hike in Chicopee Woods, students will have many opportunities to explore specific characteristics of both plants and animals found in our diverse northeast Georgia forest habitat.
May 6, 2020 Program: Stream Ecology
Students will perform biological and chemical tests on the streams found within Chicopee Woods! Be sure to wear a pair of closed-toe water shoes as we use nets, thermometers, goggles, pH kits and more while we determine the health of this aquatic ecosystem.
Register for one or more of these half-day, accredited STEAM-based environmental education programs. Each session is $20. Or, for $60 register your student for the entire program series!
