The DeKalb Symphony Orchestra will be presenting their Annual Children’s Concert featuring Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. This is a family favorite for children of all ages to come and enjoy. It is a great opportunity for parents and grandparents to introduce their children and grandchildren to live classical, orchestral music.
This one-hour concert will be narrated by WSB-TV’s Nicole Carr and will feature young dancers from the Decatur School of Ballet. Peter and the Wolf tells the story of Peter and his adventures in the meadow near his home. Other characters in the story include Peter’s grandfather, a bird, a duck, a cat, a hungry wolf, and hunters. Each character is represented by their own tune played by certain instruments of the orchestra. Through the story Peter learns how to cope with life’s challenges and dangers by using courage, creativity, and leadership. He also discovers in the process the true meaning of caring, friendship, and respect.
The program will also feature the music of the Lone Ranger, the Waltzing Cat, and the Liberty Bell March.
