Christmas with Coro Vocati
Atlanta-based professional chamber choir Coro Vocati is excited to bring its annual "Christmas with Coro Vocati" concert to audiences in Atlanta and Stone Mountain next weekend. Featuring the theme, Of a Rose and Five Branches, which is taken from a medieval text comparing the Virgin Mary to a lovely rose, the concert follows the rose's five branches -- representing the angel, a star, the three kings, the devil and heaven. Showcasing both traditional carols and soon-to-be-favorites, the program includes "Noel Nouvelet," "Three Kings" and "The Angel Gabriel" as well as classics like "O Magnum Mysterium" and "Lully, Lulla." Attendees also will have a chance to join the choir for festive renditions of "Joy to the World" and "O Come, All Ye Faithful."
"Christmas with Coro Vocati" 2019 is an extra-special concert for the choir because it includes a unique holiday gift to audiences -- the world premiere of a commissioned work by rising composer and metro Atlanta native Mikeila McQueston. This new carol is set to American poet Luci Shaw’s "Descent," which was published in Shaw's book, "Accompanied by Angels: Poems of the Incarnation."
"Christmas with Coro Vocati" will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain (5901 Hugh Howell Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30087), and on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Midtown Atlanta (634 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30308) For more information or to purchase tickets, visit corovocati.org.
