Atlanta’s Jewish community is preparing to kick off its annual food drive, Operation Isaiah, where they plan to collect over 100,000 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Every year the Jewish Community gets together on Yom Kippur to follow the words of Isaiah and “share food with the hungry”. This tradition was started in 1990 by the Ahavath Achim Synagogue and is one of several efforts to raise awareness for the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Hunger Action Month. All the food they collect is distributed by the Food Bank to its 600 partner agencies who provide meals for the working families, children and seniors in need.
