The popular Augusta Cutting Horse event, Augusta Futurity, will return for the 40th year on Saturday, January 12. This event brings in the top horses along with trainers, riders and vendors from all over the United States for a week full of activities and entertainment. This highly anticipated event has a robust schedule that consists of bull riding, amateur any age, non-pro any age, a vendors expo, a stallion auction and a Wrangler Family Fun fest.
A sport with strong ties to the east coast that began in the 1970s, the sport of cutting grew at a rapid pace drawing in fans from all over the world. At the start of the sport, it was difficult for participants to travel all the way to Texas for major shows, so in January of 1979, the Atlantic Coast Cutting Horse Association was formed to create easier access for those eager to participate. In February 1980, the Augusta Futurity was launched and achieved 140 nominations. Flash forward to 2018 and the world-renowned competition now offers winners a substantial amount of prize money which has led to riders and trainers making Augusta a regular stop year-after-year.
