On Sunday, January 19 from 4 to 9pm, Cooks & Soldiers will host its fifth annual Tamborrada celebration, transforming its dining room and patios into the lively streets of San Sebastián to honor its Basque namesake with Tamborrada traditions and Basque specialties. Known as Spain’s most iconic drumming music festival, Tamborrada is held annually in Spain’s northern city of San Sebastian and is regarded as the biggest winter event in the area with 24-hours of bonfires, dancing, marching drummers and an abundance of Basque cuisine all amongst booming crowds of locals and tourists who flood to the city each year to eat, drink & be merry. Set to bring the celebration back to the states yet again for a milestone year, C&S will serve up food stations flooded with C&S favorites from executive chef Matthew Ridgway including bikinis, chistorra in a blanket, chuleton, albondigas, paella & churros alongside specialty dishes created just for the festival (and inspired by chef Ridgway’s recent trip to Spain) & beverage stations pouring signature gin & tonics, Urban Tree cider & txakoli. In addition to the cuisine, C&S will entertain guests with Tamborrada rituals in the form of live music, a Basque-style drumming line and a projection of footage from the celebration in San Sebastián along with other surprises throughout the evening.
General admission tickets are available for $50 per person (includes unlimited food & brandy/churro toasts) & VIP tickets are available for $78 per person (unlimited food, all-you-can-drink txakoli, beer, cider, gin tonics, red & white wine & brandy/churro toasts). Tickets can be purchased online here. Vegetarian & gluten-free dishes are included in the evening’s menu line-up & will be available at the food stations. C&S will be closed for regular dinner service on Jan. 19.
